Dear Music Lovers

TIME TO RENEW FOR 2020!

The Friends of Orchestral Music has had an incredible year of fundraising events and supporting music for the future:

Our evenings of ‘the other side’ soirees at Bowmans have been wonderful insights to music making from a classical – jazz mix, chamber music with members of the CPO and our Baroque encounter of the Misshapen Pearls.
Our benefit gala once again helped raise much needed funds and awareness for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra and Daniel Kharitonov, conducted by Bernhard Gueller, gave a thrilling performance in September.
We have enjoyed meeting many of you at the final dress rehearsals of the CPO where we managed to raise over R200,000 for the CPO this year.
All our major and individual sponsors can now request a Section 18(A) tax donation certificate and accordingly this income is ring fenced for education.  As such we have created a portfolio dedicated to youth orchestral development where, for 2019, we were able to donate to Hugo Lambrechts, Beau Soliel, The Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival (who sponsored 10 CPYO bursaries), SANYO, the CPYO and its projects, and the Franschhoek Chamber Music Workshop. In addition a number of individuals received assistance to attend international masterclasses.

We were delighted to be the recipient of The Wynberg Rotary Proms donation for 2019 for our education portfolios and also included a live radio broadcast of the National Youth Music Competition to help us spread the reach of classical music on Fine Music Radio.

All this is made possible through your membership and passion for classical music.  But fundraising gets harder each year and the orchestra in particular needs to raise as much money as they can for their core business as well as their education programmes.  Our FOM portfolio has also undergone some restructuring due to our commitment to the development of music education and as such we are no longer able to sustain the additional 5% discount for season tickets to the CPO seasons.

However there are still many good reasons to be part of the Friends and we have listed below some of our plans for 2020. As a Friend, you will be the first to know about concerts and events, benefit from Priority Booking for the CPO and have access to a range of additional benefits, putting you right at the heart of everything we do.
