Dear Friends of Orchestral Music
Thank you for supporting the Friends during this particularly difficult year. While there have been few events to attend, your support has meant that FOM has remained busy.

Under our Individual Study Portfolio, we were able to offer support to violinist Jordan Brooks, trumpeter Zico George and clarinettist Cameron Williams. Our Orchestral Development Portfolio was able to contribute data for online lessons of the CPO Youth Projects, Beau Soleil Music Centre and Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre. The Stellenbosch International Chamber Music Festival and the Franshhoek Chamber Music Workshops postponed their events to 2021 where their donation will be put to good use. There was some light as the South African National Youth Orchestra managed to host a small Baroque course in the past few weeks where they repurposed our FOM donation to help support. You can see the highlight of this course – the Advent Concert – which will be available online from 20 – 31 December. Tickets are available at Quicket for just R80 and all the proceeds go towards SANYO. There are also a number of discussions called Summer Sessions available on Youtube.

The music also plays on – online – for the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra. They have two online concerts for you to enjoy over the festive season. The Community Spectacular Gala, recorded at Artscape, was so incredible that there will be not one but two concerts streamed online … Spectacular Pops includes such legends as Early B and Tarryn Lamb, Cathy Specific and Kyle Seconna, Craig Lucas and Marc Lottering with his Aunty Merle cast and Jazzart Dance Theatre. Community Classics presents so many brilliant acts you won’t want it to end … Nombulelo Yende and Lynelle Kenned, superb young flautists Lihle Mabhula and Jevano Swartz, trumpeters Jadon and Jason Booysen and Hayley Joorst, the unbelievable Hill sisters; and the wunderkind, the 10-year-old oboist and pianist Eleni Monvoisin who will be in both! Brandon Phillips conducts and the concerts are presented with the generous support of the City of Cape Town, online from December 30 until January 9. Tickets from Quicket.

Fine Music Radio keeps the music playing and FOM supported 4 Concert Dates at 8 with the CPO from July to September.

FOM membership renewals are now open for 2021 and all details can be found on our website www.fomct.com. Please click on the link and you will find the online form to complete.

Kind regards
