Dear Friends,

I write to inform you about the Autumn Soirée of the Friends that will this year take place on Saturday, 18 March 2017 at 5.30 for 6pm.

As you know, we have in the past been fortunate enough to be able to use Old Mutual House (OMH) for this event. However, the management of OMH has recently changed hands and, when I attempted to arrange a continuation of the previous tradition, it was made very clear to me in no uncertain terms by the new management that they did not have any sympathy for our charitable cause (our soirée was compared to “bridge drives and old-age birthday parties”) and we were consequently summarily turned down.
However, we have been very fortunate to come to an arrangement with the Table Bay Hotel, at the Waterfront, to use the ballroom of the hotel as a venue for the soirée. It is a superb venue and accommodates approximately twice the number of guests than OMH.

Tickets for the soirée will be R300. Cheese and Wine will be served after the event.

The programme this year is a very exciting one. Luis Magalhāes and Nina Schumann will be playing music for two pianos by Rachmaninoff, notably the Suite No. 1 and the Suite No. 2 for two pianos as well as the two-piano transcription of his Symphonic Dances. As far as I am aware, this programme has not been presented in Cape Town before, so we are in for a treat.

Please book your seats as soon as possible with myself (082-5576566; derek@auret.co.za) or Ruth Allen (021-794-2435; rutha@telkomsa.net). Please also encourage your friends to attend this very special chamber music recital. I can assure you that you will not be disappointed!

Best regards,
Derek Auret
