Dear All,

The 2015 Friends of Orchestral Music Gala Fundraising Concert takes place on Thursday 19 November 2015 at 20h00 at the City Hall. The programme is an all-Brahms one with the Symphony No. 3 in F, Opus 90 to be followed by Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat, Opus 83 after interval. It is a very exciting event and we are privileged to have two well-known artists who will be performing on the night.

Maestro Bernhard Gueller who well-known to all music lovers in Cape Town will be on the podium. He is a much loved visitor to Cape Town who plays an enormous rôle in the musical life of this city. Our soloist in the Brahms Piano Concerto will be the exhilarating Antonio Pompa-Baldi who, it will be recalled, performed all the Rachmaninoff Piano Concertos and the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini to huge acclaim two years ago. He is a welcome return visitor and we are thrilled that he will be performing at the Gala Concert.

As it was last year, there will be a special reception exclusively for members of the Friends of Orchestral Music following the concert. This year the access to the reception will be strictly controlled since many non-members “gate-crashed” the event last year. Members of the Friends who are attending the concert should please obtain access bands to the post-concert reception from the Friends’ table in the foyer of the City Hall prior to the concert. The table will be manned from 18h45 onwards. Please be sure to bring your membership cards in order to be able to receive your identification. Please also note that there will not be the opportunity for people to join the Friends on the evening of the concert.

If you have not yet booked your seats, please do so soon since we are facing a sell-out evening. Tickets are R500 and R450 for members of the Friends. Platform seats are R200. It is bound to be a very exciting and enjoyable evening.

I look forward to welcoming you to the City Hall on 19 November 2015

Kind regards
Derek Auret
